Architectural Photography was one of the first genres of photography that I fell in love with. The fact that my journey in the photo biz started with drone work definitely influenced the types of shots I looked for. I'm not sure why I have such an affinity for the style. It probably has a lot to do with the many years I spent looking at marching band drill critiquing lines and angles and symmetry. I feel a certain sense of peace when I see a beautifully designed building that wasn't designed with only function in mind.
One day in February of 2021 I got up particularly early and made the two hour drive to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I knew it was going to be cold, but I was not ready for what the weather had in store for me. When I arrived at 7am it was 34 degrees and it didn't get above 38 that morning. I realize for my friends up north 34 degrees Fahrenheit is a nice warm day, but I was shivering. I started the morning by getting some sunrise drone photos and video of the Mississippi River. Luckily, my amazing wife found me some gloves that allow touchscreen use because without those I'm pretty sure my hands would have frozen off. After I put the drone up I got out my Canon and just started to walk around to try and find some interesting shots. It being a Saturday morning in downtown Baton Rouge there weren't a lot of people out and about. It was dead quiet. It was perfect.
That's another aspect of photography I absolutely love. A good portion of your time shooting is by yourself and quiet. I'm a musician and a dad to a 4 year old. My life is pretty is loud so I definitely appreciate the quiet times. So, my question for you is...When is your quiet time?
